Find the right hedge for you
Griselinia hedging plants approximately 6ft tall.
Pot size 20 or 25 litre.
20 litre pots are approximately 35cm in diameter by 30cm deep. We recommend digging a hole 60cm wide (square) by 32cm deep. Dig over the soil in the bottom of the hole to another spades depth at least to ensure the soil is not compacted. This allows any excess water (rainfall or over-watering) to drain and also allows the roots of the hedging plants to grow into the soil easily.
Plant height is measured from the top of the pot.
Planting distance is 60-100cm apart (2-3ft), use our Hedge Spacing Calculator to work out how many you need. Plant closer if you want to the hedge to form more quickly.
The planting hole should be 1.5-2 times the size of the pot, so for a 15 or 20 litre pot, the hole should be approximately 50cm diameter (square) x 27cm deep. Loosen the base of the hole for about another 30cm/12” to improve drainage. Mix our professional 12-14 month feed with the soil and backfill with soil or a compost and soil mix. Firm well. Keep well watered for the first growing season. For more information on planting, please click here.

Griselinia have rounded, shiny, bright-green, evergreen leaves which give a lighter backdrop than most other types of hedging. The effect of a mature Griselina hedge is to brighten up the area.
It is particularly well suited for seaside hedging as it is resistant to salt-laden air. It is a popular hedge in coastal areas but also grows well inland.
It makes a dense hedge which can be pruned to any height between 1.5-6m (5-20ft). Growth rate is up to 50-60cm (20”-24”) a year, it establishes and thickens out quickly.
Generally pest-free, Griselinia is easy to care for, giving a healthy, vigorous hedge with little effort beyond pruning annually.
It does well in sun or light shade and most types of well-drained soil. A south or west aspect is ideal for Griselinia.
