Griselinia have rounded, shiny, bright-green, evergreen leaves which give a lighter backdrop than most other types of hedging. The effect of a mature Griselina hedge is to brighten up the area.
It is particularly well suited for seaside hedging as it is resistant to salt-laden air. It is a popular hedge in coastal areas but also grows well inland.
It makes a dense hedge which can be pruned to any height between 1.5-6m (5-20ft). Growth rate is up to 50-60cm (20”-24”) a year, it establishes and thickens out quickly.
Generally pest-free, Griselinia is easy to care for, giving a healthy, vigorous hedge with little effort beyond pruning annually.
It does well in sun or light shade and most types of well-drained soil. A south or west aspect is ideal for Griselinia.
