Greenshutters Garden Centre Newsletter June 2025

May has been another glorious month with lots more sunshine. Who would have thought at the end of February this year that we would be wishing for some rain?

Greenshutters Garden Centre is looking very lush and colourful. We still have bedding and basket plants available and can refill hanging baskets for you with the plants of your choice. We also have lots of new Raymond Evison Clematis (see below) and herbaceous perennials.

We will be having our bedding plant tunnel re-covered in June, so please bear with us. There shouldn’t be too much disruption, but if you can’t find something, please ask a member of staff as some products will be stored behind the scenes temporarily.

Come visit us and explore the wide variety of beautiful plants we have available for you to enjoy. We are always here to help and we can’t wait to see you soon!

Roger and all the team at Greenshutters Garden Centre.

Clematis Olympia

Raymond Evison Clematis

Raymond Evison is a name synonymous with clematis, particularly modern, compact, and long-flowering varieties. Based on the island of Guernsey, Raymond Evison has dedicated over 60 years to the breeding and development of these popular climbing plants, earning him international recognition and numerous awards, including 33 Gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Clematis Nubia

These modern cultivars are specifically bred to be easy to grow and maintain, making them suitable for both experienced gardeners and novices. Many Raymond Evison clematis are celebrated for their ability to produce an abundance of flowers from early summer through to late autumn, often blooming on both old and new wood.

Clematis Ooh La La

Many Raymond Evison clematis varieties are also specifically bred for a compact growth habit, making them exceptionally versatile for modern gardens and smaller spaces. These cultivars typically reach heights of around 3 to 6 feet (approximately 0.9 to 1.8 metres), a significantly more manageable size compared to some traditional, more vigorous clematis types.

Clematis Duchess of Cornwall

This compact nature makes them ideal for a wide range of uses. They are perfectly suited for growing in containers and pots on patios, balconies, and terraces, bringing vertical interest to areas where planting in the soil isn’t possible. Their restrained size also means they won’t overwhelm other plants, making them excellent companions in mixed borders, where they can be trained up small obelisks or allowed to weave through shrubs.

Clematis Moonbeam

We have a range of different Raymond Evison and other Clematis available, including varieties such as Nubia (red), Moonbeam (white), Diana’s Delight (blue), Duchess of Cornwall (purple) and Olympia (light blue).

Clematis Diana’s Delight

We also have more traditional large flowered Clematis varieties such as the wonderful Josephine and the beautiful Multi-Blue.
