Portugal Laurel 60-80cm (2’0″-2’7″) Trough

These are Portugal Laurel hedging troughs are 1 metre long and should be planted one trough per metre.  There are a number of plants in each trough trimmed to make them fill out into a ready hedge.

The trough size is approximately 100cm x 20cm x 17cm

To plant, dig a trench approximately 45cm (18cm) wide by 20cm deep. Dig over the bottom of the trench with a fork or spade to make sure the soil is not compacted. If the soil is loosened up, the roots of the plants will be able to grow into the soil easily and will be able to take up the water and nutrients the plants need.  We recommend adding some of our 12-month controlled release feed that has all the nutrients the instant hedge needs for the first year (approximately 100g per trough).  Remove the plastic trough from the hedge and place it in the trench. Fill the rest of the trench back in with good top soil and firm with your foot.  Water the trough in and keep it watered when necessary. Do not allow the soil to try out completely. Obviously, from November to February, there is usually no need to water once the hedging trough has been watered in at planting.

We recommend planting the trough as a whole. We do not recommend splitting the individual plants in the trough and planting them separately.

Please note: we measure height from the top of the compost in the trough to the top of the plant. Heights quoted will be the height of the plants on delivery. The eventual height of the hedge will depend on pruning.
